Dr Kelvin Foong is an educator. He leverages his research interests and clinical expertise to educate future generations of dentists and orthodontists. He is a tenured Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Senior Consultant in the University Dental Cluster, National University Hospital (NUH). He is the Director of the Discipline of Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry, and the Director of the Master of Dental Surgery programme in Orthodontics.
Dr Kelvin Foong graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1988 with the basic dental degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery. He pursued specialty training in orthodontics and obtained the Masters in Dental Surgery in Orthodontics from The University of Adelaide, South Australia in 1994 under the late Professor Milton Sims. He went on to receive the Diploma of Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1996. His research interests in surgical cleft outcomes led to a PhD in 2005 from NUS. Dr Foong is also an alumnus of Wharton School, having completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2013.
His academic interests are centered on decision-making. In education, he explores the cognitive factors influencing the transition in learning from novice to expertise. His other substantial research interest is in medical imaging. He works with a multi-disciplinary team to develop virtual patient-specific anatomic models to facilitate sound clinical-decision making. His clinical service at NUH focuses on the orthodontic management of children and adult patients with substantial dento-facial deformities.

Dr. Maria Therese S. Galang-Boquiren graduated with a DMD from the University of the Philippines in Manila in 2000, and was ranked tenth of almost 800 who passed the licensure examination given that year. After a year of private general practice in her home country, she went to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), finishing an MS in Oral Sciences. She went on to obtain a Certificate in Orthodontics and an Advanced Standing DDS degree at the same institution in 2007 and 2009, respectively.
Dr. Galang-Boquiren joined the UIC Department of Orthodontics as Assistant Professor and Director of Predoctoral Orthodontics in 2007. Her experience in academia is complemented with private clinical practice and a hospital appointment as Consultant Orthodontist at the John H Stroger Jr Hospital of Cook County, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
She has received numerous awards from both Philippine- and American-based institutions. Among these awards was a Certificate of Distinction from the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Association of Philippine Orthodontists. In 2010 she received an NRSA Training Grant from the University of Washington Summer Institute in Clinical Dental Research Methods. Dr. Galang-Boquiren is an accomplished academician, as evidenced by her receiving the Teaching Recognition Award from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Council for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2011. In the same year, she received a $50,000 grant for research in sleep apnea. She has mentored over 40 dental students and orthodontic residents and has helped them with numerous research projects which were eventually presented in scientific meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals, a number of which won awards.
Because of her successful collaboration with the UIC Colleges of Nursing and Medicine in the field of dental sleep medicine, she has recently been appointed as one of the directors of the Illinois Sleep Society. She also reviews articles for the World Journal of Orthodontics, Journal of Dentistry for Children, and Journal of Dental Education. Dr. Galang-Boquiren has been invited to present in conferences locally and internationally, speaking in Taiwan, Australia, the Philippines, and the United States.

He acquired his fellowship in orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons (M Orth), Edinburgh and is a Diplomate of the Indian board of Orthodontics (DIBO) and The National Board of Medical Sciences (Dip NB).He was awarded the scholarship of the International Scientific Exchange Fund of the Japan Dental Association which led to clinical training at Tsurumi University Yokohama, Japan.
He has several awards winning presentations to his credit and has won the Presidential Trophy for the Best Clinical Paper Award of the Indian Orthodontic Society thrice and the Best Research Award twice .He has been a headline speaker at the IOS National Conferences for almost two decades and has been invited to deliver a lecture at all IOS post graduate students conventions. He delivered the Dr. H. S. Sheik Memorial Oration at IOS PG. Convention in 2013 and prestigious oration of the Indian Orthodontic Society at the IOS Conference in Kolkata in 2014. He received his dental training from Lucknow University, India in 1964. He received his orthodontic training first at Lucknow, India and then from Nymegen, The Netherlands and the University of Connecticut. He also received a Ph.D. for the University of Nymegen in 1969. He was an Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at Loyola University, Illinois from 1970 to 1972 and since 1972 he has been associated with the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Nanda has been author and co-author of five orthodontic books and more than two hundred scientific and clinical articles in major journals. He is Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Orthodontics. He is on the editorial board of ten different national and international orthodontic journals. He is also an associate editor of Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.
He is an active member of various organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, European Orthodontic Society and Edward H. Angle Society. Dr. Nanda is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He has given numerous named lectures at national and international societies including Mershon Lecture at American Association of Orthodontics and Sheldon Friel Lecture at 2011 EOS Congress. He has been recognized with various awards from numerous international orthodontic organizations.
Dr.Nanda is a co-editor of a book Retention and Stability. Prof. Young Guk Park is a world renowned researcher, author and speaker in clinical orthodontics and associated basic science. He is the Professor of Orthodontics of Kyung Hee University, Seoul, where he is the Dean of the School of Dentistry, and also the Executive Director of Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital.
He is the Past President of the Korean Association of Orthodontists and its Foundation, and he is currently the President of the Korean Academy of Dental Education. His main interest lies in the lingual orthodontics with individually tailored appliance, and accelerating tooth movement with CorticisionTM which involves minor periodontal procedure without flap elevation, and “light accelerated orthodontics with LED”. Dr Sandra Tai was born in Aldershot, England. She received her graduate training in Orthodontics at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA and graduated with a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science degree in 1990. Dr Sandra Tai is currently a practicing Specialist in Orthodontics in Vancouver, Canada.
Dr Sandra Tai has been an Invisalign certified orthodontist since 2000 and is currently an Invisalign Top 1% Provider who has treated over 1,200 cases with Invisalign. She was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of British Columbia since 1996, teaching in both undergraduate and graduate orthodontic programs. Bernd Lapatki received his degree in dentistry from the University of Freiburg (Germany) in December 1994. After working for two years as a general dentist, he defended his doctoral thesis in medicine (Dr. med. dent. degree) with the title “Quantitative Analysis for the Assessment of Functional Parameters during Trumpet Playing” in 1998. In December 2000, he finished a postgraduate study at the Department of Orthodontics, Freiburg University Medical Centre, and obtained the certificate as “specialist in orthodontics”. From September 2001 to October 2002 he attended as a research fellow at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center (The Netherlands). After finishing his habilitation thesis (leading to a German academic degree, equivalent to a Ph.D.) in dentistry with the title “Pathogenesis and treatment stability of cover-bite and Angle-Class II Division 2 malocclusion” in November 2007, he received a second Ph.D. degree from the Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands) in June 2010 for his thesis “The facial musculature – characterisation at a motor unit level”. In September 2009, he obtained a professorship for orthodontics from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ulm, where he is working as Head of the Department of Orthodontics, and since 2013 as Director of the Centre of Dentistry.
